Consequences

The Krakatoa volcano exploded, but that's not why more than 36.000 people died. First the volcano exploded and collapsed. That sound is still the loudest sound ever, you could hear the explosion 4.800 km away. Krakatoa's explosion caused a huge damage to 2/3 of the island. It also caused a 30 metres high tsunami that flooded the coasts of Java and Sumatra. The volcano produced a lot of smoke. The ash cloud was more than 50 kilometres high. It reached the atmosmosphere; the shock waves went 7 times around the earth. And the smoke covered the whole earth. It made the earth a little darker. The smoke filtered the sunlight and the earth's temperature went down 1.3 degrees.
Now the original Krakatoa is split into 2 parts. The krakatoa was on a Island with 3 volcanos (see ), but that area was called Krakatoa and all the volcanos exploded. And out of the same crater, came a new volcano. The 'Anak Krakatoa', what means, 'child of Krakatoa'. A lot of people think that the original Krakatoa still exists, but then they are talking about Anak Krakatoa.
